大学無償化ネタ第3弾、大学無償化に反対の英作文を書いてみたいと思います。
こちらは英検２級～準1級くらいのライティング問題を想定した予想トピックです。

対訳：大学教育は無料にすべきという意見がある。この考えに賛成ですか？
大学無償化のデメリット
１．財源は？政府の負担が増えるだけ？
２．定員割れの大学が助かるだけ
３．とりあえず～で進学するやる気のない学生が増え、大学の質が落ちる
などなど…
以上のデメリットをもとに、反対意見の英作文を書いてみました。こちら↓
大学無償化に反対の英作文
| Although some people argue that university education should be free, I disagree with this idea because I believe there are more disadvantages than advantages when it comes to free education.
Firstly, free education will only end up helping schools struggling with a shortage of students. Due to the decline in the number of children in Japan, many universities are having trouble getting applicants. Free tuition may motivate more people to go to school, but they might not be motivated to study. As a result, quality of the universities may suffer. Secondly, free education can be a waste of tax money. Governmental financial aid for those schools usually comes from tax revenue, so it surely becomes a burden for the taxpayers. Instead, we should spend more on grant-type scholarships for excellent students. For these reasons, I do not think university education should be free of charge. |
対訳：大学教育を無償化すべきという議論があるが、わたしは反対です。教育費無料化は、メリットよりもデメリットの方が多いと思うからです。
まず、教育を無料化しても、生徒不足に悩む大学を助けるだけです。日本では子どもの数が減っているため、多くの大学が入学志願者不足で苦労しています。授業料がタダになれば生徒は増えるかもしれませんが、勉強する気はないかもしれません。その結果、大学の質が低下するかもしれません。
また、教育の無料化は税金の無駄使いです。これからの学校への政府の経済援助の財源はたいてい税金です。したがって、納税者の負担になります。それよりも、優秀な学生向けの給付型奨学金を増やすべきです。
これらの理由により大学教育は無料にすべきだと思います。
・end up ～ing 結局～という結果になる
・applicant 志願者
・tuition 授業料
・motivate 人 to ～ 人を～する気にさせる
・suffer 被害を被る 悪くなる
・tax revenue 税収
・grant-type scholarship 給付型奨学金
いかがでしょうか？
「定員割れ」は「生徒不足 a shortage of students 」などの易しい表現で書き表せますね。
「給付型奨学金」の反対が返済義務のある loan-based scholarship です。現在社会問題になっているのは、このloan-based scholarshipの方です。scholarshipなんて紛らわしい言葉を使わず、loanとはっきり言ってほしいですね。
